Panchakarma means "five actions". It is a set of classical Ayurvedic cleansing therapies. It usually has three stages: preparation (oil massage and steam, and sometimes medicated ghee), the main therapy, and a recovery period with a light diet. The doctor plans each stage for you.
Yes. The doctor first takes your history and examines you, then decides which therapies, if any, are suitable. Some therapies are not advised during pregnancy, certain illnesses or very weak health, so this step is important.
It depends on your concern and the plan. A single therapy session may take 45 to 90 minutes; a Panchakarma course can run from a few days to a few weeks. The doctor will explain the duration and any preparation at your first visit.
Please do not stop any medicine on your own. Tell the doctor about every medicine you take, including for blood pressure, sugar or thyroid. Any change should be discussed with the doctor who prescribed it.
Ayurvedic medicines are prescribed after examination, in a dose and for a duration that suits you. Take them only as prescribed, and tell the doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any long-term illness.
Bring your previous reports, prescriptions and a list of the medicines you take. For therapy sessions, wear loose, comfortable clothes and avoid a heavy meal just before.
